It is important to always take a practice swing before each shot. This will ensure that you’re lined up properly and that you are using the proper club.  You will be able to visualize your shot and make any corrections before actually making connection with the ball.  Your practice swing should be a full swing in the exact way that you will perform the movement when you’re ready to hit the ball.

Be Consistent

The single most important thing to remember in learning how to golf swing is consistency.  If you can maintain a consistent stance and swing, you’ll likely be able to improve your game.  Those who are inconsistent will have the most trouble building on their skills.  The grip and swing are typically the same throughout the game no matter which club you use, with the exception of the putter.  Once you can keep your stance and swing even, you will be able to build on these skills to improve your game.

Where you place the ball is an important part of a consistent golf swing.  You will need to place the ball differently based on the type of club that you’re using.  Use one of your woods to tee off.  The tee should be neither too high nor too low.  Stand with an open stance with the ball placed off the left heel (for right handed players).  On the fairways, the ball should also be placed off the left heel. If you’re standing on uneven ground the ball placement can be a little trickier. Try to keep your weight mainly on your right foot, which acts as an anchor upon which you’ll revolve to obtain power.  Use your leg muscles to help you power through the shot.

Use the Practice Range

It’s never been tough in learning how to golf swing, as there’s nothing more important to a consistent swing than practice.  While golfing a round will get you swinging, you may not be aware of each of your clubs and how to properly use it.  Getting your swing perfected is best done on the practice range.  Take all your clubs to the range and plan on spending at least an hour taking swings.  Golf is one sport where practice really does matter especially while you’re in learning curve on how to golf swing properly.  Try to get in at least one practice session per week.  Avoid practicing immediately before playing a round as this will only tire you out and weaken your game. Use all areas of the practice range.  Try to practice chip shots as well as sand trap shots and putting.

Take Your Time

Many golfers feel hurried on the course, especially on busy days when the course is crowded.  You need to learn to take your time golfing.  If you’re playing too slowly, don’t worry.  Simply allow the group behind you to play through.  This will allow you some extra time.  Make sure that you properly size up each shot, choose the right club and take a practice swing.  You’ll soon be able to determine the proper club to use from the distance you are shooting from.  It’s helpful to try to play with others who have similar skills as you.  Determine your handicap and join a foursome with others who have the same handicap.  Above all, you should have fun while on the course.  Golf should be a relaxing pastime where you’re outdoors in the fresh air, enjoying the day.
